AUTHOR: MONICA BROWN
ILLUSTRATOR: THELMA MURAIDA
DESCRIPTION: What do parents do when their children misbehave so badly they reach the end of their rope? Well, you send them to the curandera of course!
WHY I LIKE THIS BOOK: I was surprised and delighted by the contents of this book and the gentle reminder of the value of elder wisdom. Monica Brown’s touching dialogue and Thelma Muraida’s brilliant illustrations tell a story of a mom at loggerheads with her daughter. In desperation she reaches out to the local curandera for help. The book highlights a time honored tradition in the Latino community of individuals who have a gift for analyzing and transforming negative behaviors and attitudes. When Clara arrives at the curandero her recommended course of action makes no sense. However, by the end of this story you’ll be laughing and cheering for Clara’s new attitude and the lessons she learns in love that will serve her for a lifetime!
