TITLE: ONE PLASTIC BAG
AUTHOR: MIRANDA PAUL
ILLUSTRATOR: ELIZABETH ZUNON
DESCRIPTION: A Gambian woman takes matters into her own hands when the pollution of her community takes a toll that no one can afford.
WHY I LIKE THIS BOOK: I admire true stories where people decide it’s time to find credible solutions to real world problems. A young woman from the Gambia realizes that what appears to be a modern convenience in the form of plastic bags has become a deadly force in her community. With no effective means to dispose of the waste, a solution begins to emerge. Her idea draws ridicule at first but she perseveres and persuades other women to join her in her crusade. In the end she devises a way to recycle that not only reduces the waste but provides creative and economic impact on her community. This is a great read which reminds us all that we can and must become better stewards of the planet.
