Throwback Thursday-Family Matters

📸 Have I got a Throwback Thursday for you all today!

🚚 Moving can be really hard on young kids because it can mean long periods of separation from extended family.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 My husband and I come from large families with lots of brothers and sisters and even more cousins, aunts and uncles. We made every effort to give our kids as much time as possible with their grandparents and other extended family members.
_
🚗 That meant lots of road trips back and forth between Iowa, Indiana, Georgia and Arkansas throughout our kids’ childhood experience. This gave us lots of time to talk with our kids about everything in the times before everyone jacked into their own mobile devices 24/7.
_
❤️ We will never regret the choice we made to use our vacation time for maintaining our family ties for ourselves and our children. We couldn’t have known way back then how important that choice would be when their grandfather was diagnosed with Early Onset Alzheimer’s when our kids were teens.
_
🙌🏾 We feel blessed that our kids got to know ALL of their grandparents during those early formative years and that now that they are adults, they can look back and remember who they come from.

How do you work to maintain and strengthen the bonds of extended family with your kids from a distance? We’d love to have you share so that we can help others who might need fresh ideas.
